Russian River blend and new » 2006
DuNah single vineyard are both unfined
and unfiltered. That approach lends itself to delivering
pure flavor and aromatics, things that to me matter most.
For a delicate grape like Pinot Noir, the less tampering, the better in my view. Just enough new French oak to add structure and tease the palate, not enough to call attention to itself.

Blending my 2006 Russian River wine, with an able assist from winemaker Greg LaFollette (as seen here on the right side of the table) kept me with my nose in a glass for the better part of two weeks, sipping and sniffing.
To achieve the balance and depth of my first release, the ’05 Segue,
I couldn’t simply blend the same vineyards in the same proportions as I had the previous year. Way too easy. It just doesn’t work that way. Nature never cooperates in the area of perfect weather consistency from one harvest to the next, so sniff by sniff and sip by sip Greg and I arrived at a wine with similar appealing qualities, yet one that takes advantage of the cooler ’06 growing season— with more developed soft tannins and layers of dark fruit.
That’s a long way of saying that both of these Segue wines are made to slide like silk across your tongue and hold your attention from first mouthful to last pour.
